Naxals destroy 43 mobile phone towers

In recent times, Naxalites are targetting the communication networks across various states in the country.

Accroding to an Home Ministry Official, in this year atleast 43 mobile phone towers were destroyed by the Maoists in six states - Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Orissa.

"The Naxals are targetting the mobile phone towers as they believe that communication network is being frequently used by the security agencies and their informers to launch operations against the Maoists," the official said.

Bihar and Chhattisgarh have the most damages by these groups - 14 towers in each state. Nine mobile phone towers were destroyed by the Left wing extremists in Jharkhand, four in Orissa and one each in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra this year.
