Nokia N96 comes to India

Just two days, before the official launch of Apple's iPhone in India, leading mobile manufacturer Nokia introduces its advanced mobile phone Nokia N96 in the indian market. Nokia N96 is expected to match advanced features of iPhone.

This model is expected to cost around Rs. 35000/- in India.

Some of the salient features of Nokia N96 are:

2.8" LCD display with up to 16 million colors
5.2 mm/5 mp Camera
16GB internal flash memory, plus microSD memory card slot
128MB RAM, 256MB system memory
Talk time: up to 150 / 220 minutes . Standby: up to 200 / 220 hours
Video playback: up to 5 hours. Music playback: up to 14 hours. V playback: up to 4 hours

NOKIA : Only 3% of unused mobile phones are recycled

In a recent Global Consumer Survey conducted by Nokia, it was revealed that a majority of mobile phones are left unused, unaware that these devices can be recycled. The study was conducted with about 6500 people in 13 countries, including China, India, Germany, the US and the UK.

Few important points in the survey are:

Only 3% of the respondents , recycle their mobole phones.
Globally 50% of the respondents were not aware that their devices can be reused.
In India, only 17% of the respondents were aware about Mobile Phone Recycling.
The UK leads in the awareness about mobile phone recycling.

Regarding the recycling process at Nokia, they state:

Nokia uses the best recycling technology, so that nothing is wasted.
Between 65 percent and 80 percent of a Nokia phones can be recycled.
Plastics that cannot be recycled are burnt to provide energy for the recycling process
Other materials are ground up into chips and also used as construction materials or for building roads.

Nokia have plans to encourage recycling of unused devices through a series of campaigns and activities. They would provide information on how to go about recycling the old phones, charges and other mobile accessories.

Also Nokia would setup many collection points for unused mobile devices in 85 countries.
